Argus is designed to report packet loss when it is possible to
detect it. Argus tracks the TCP state machine for all TCP
flows that it follows, and it reliably reports on TCP
retransmission/packet loss rates. Argus also has sequence
number tracking logic for ESP IPSec flows, and for this traffic type
Argus will report on the one-way packet loss seen for the
flow. This support follows the recommendations of RFC
2681.
When deployed in a distributed fashion, argus provides the data
needed to calculate one-way packet loss for all
Argus flow types. Future releases will contain clients that
can present one-way packet loss for arbitrary flows.
